Choosing a DVD Player

With such a wide variety of DVD players on offer to the buyer with similar specifications and no real apparent differences, it can be difficult deciding which one to choose. Many DVD players are available at extremely low prices and while there's no doubt that some of these players offer excellent value, they are still a waste of money if they don't do everything you want them too.

Set A Budget

When setting out to buy a DVD player you should always have budget in mind and stick to it. Of course if your budget is on the low side you can't expect to get a model that has every feature under the sun. and you may have to settle for a more basic model. Don't be tempted into spending a bit more for extra features especially if you don't really need them in the first place.

Cabling

Some DVD players only come with the basic quality cables, so if you want better quality connectors so you can get the best possible images from your player, then you should take the price of these into consideration when setting your budget.

Siting

When buying a DVD player for the home make sure it is robust enough to withstand the wear and tear it will get in your home. This may sound pretty obvious , but buy one that's a suitable size to fit into any unit or shelving it may eventually be placed into. It's amazing how many people forget about this. They see a model they like the look or price of and buy it without thinking where it's going to go in the home. It's also important to remember that there has to be enough room for air to circulate around the unit so it doesn't overheat, and also that there is enough room for leads and connectors to extend out at the rear.

Audio

DVD players are capable of playing audio CDs too, but make sure your DVD can play other formats like MP3, if you intend to use it for playing music.

International

DVDs are encoded into regions with six regions 1-6 covering the globe. If you buy a region1 DVD when abroad in the USA for instance the DVD will only play on a device designed for that region. So if you have a collection of DVDs that you've bought from outside Europe then you should check that the player you are buying is is multi-region, which can play al types of DVD.
